| Matthew
5:31 "It
has been said, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate
of divorce.'
Matthew 5:31 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery." --- Matthew 19:3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?" Matthew 19:4 "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator `made them male and female,' Matthew 19:5 and said, `For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh' Matthew 19:6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." Matthew 19:7 "Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?" Matthew 19:8 Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. Matthew 19:9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery." Matthew 19:10 The disciples said to him, "If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry." Matthew 19:11 Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. Matthew 19:12 For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it." --- Mark 10:2 Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" Mark 10:3 "What did Moses command you?" he replied. Mark 10:4 They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." Mark 10:5 "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. Mark 10:6 "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female. Mark 10:7 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, Mark 10:8 and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. Mark 10:9 Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." Mark 10:10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. Mark 10:11 He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. Mark 10:12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." --- 1Corinthians
7:12 To the rest I say this (I, not the
Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing
to live with him, he must not divorce her.
